W O R D S ! ~
INCLUDED INSIDE: meditation for soothing and sitting with opposites, a manifesto, a poem, and more words still
Words, bones, and breath… i dont know of any better anchors for this wild animal of a mind….
There is much to tap into today. Many feelings of many sorts.
I wanted to share with y’all the meditation we did last week so that you could have a little something to plug into should you need it. And/or, as ever, join us live on Tuesday (tmrw) for 20 minutes to sit in and amongst it all- swirling and whirling existence that it is. These are always led meditations, so no experience necessary- you can come, sit, lie down, camera off, camera on… do whatever suits you. But to come to our quiet time, curious to observe on a level beneath the surface, is to bring equilibrium and perspective back to this bodymind and heal so so many things… arriving deeper in these bones, we can show up better and bigger in and for ourselves and our world.
Here is the poem in the meditation:
Now we will count to twelve
and we will all keep still
for once on the face of the earth,
let's not speak in any language;
let's stop for a second,
and not move our arms so much.
It would be an exotic moment
without rush, without engines;
we would all be together
in a sudden strangeness.
Fishermen in the cold sea
would not harm whales
and the man gathering salt
would not look at his hurt hands.
Those who prepare green wars,
wars with gas, wars with fire,
victories with no survivors,
would put on clean clothes
and walk about with their brothers
in the shade, doing nothing.
What I want should not be confused
with total inactivity.
Life is what it is about...
If we were not so single-minded
about keeping our lives moving,
and for once could do nothing,
perhaps a huge silence
might interrupt this sadness
of never understanding ourselves
and of threatening ourselves with
death.
Now I'll count up to twelve
and you keep quiet and I will go.
~ Pablo Neruda
Or join us live anytime…. TUESDAYS @ 12pm MT:
I also thought i would include a little something i wrote at exactly this time 4 years ago. In many ways, the issues spoken of linger on and it is perhaps an interesting read in times such as these~
Y’all know i love me some words. I like how they taste, how they roll around my tongue, how they excite and inspire, connect and create, settle and soothe… but perhaps more than anything, i love how they drop me off at the door of the unfathomable and the utterly unutterable.
Join us any Sunday to come unlock these cryptic formations. 3 things this world could definitely stand some more of- sharing, community, and wisdom.
We’d love to see you then. Get cozy and come help us circle around these exalted little creatures- WORDS… let in rain words, sweet words… my heart’s true and forever love.
If there’s anything i love more than words, it’s the silent alphabet of yoga. This string of letters through limbs or postured prostrations, each with their own geometry and their own psychology, creates language that speaks to something beyond the rational mind and straight to heart. These classes are here for you- join us to fine-tune and to sing the silent songs of your lifetime. Together we can create the harmony that is needed for this chorus called life.
And then there’s this:
“Recent studies and discoveries increasingly point out that we heal primarily in and through the body, not just through the rational brain. We can all create more room, and more opportunities for growth, in our nervous systems. But we do this primarily through what our bodies experience and do—not through what we think or realize or cognitively figure out.”
― Resmaa Menakem, quote from My Grandmother's Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Mending of Our Bodies and Hearts
If that’s not a vote for yoga, i dunno what is.
Sending lots of love,
Julia
