To say I am speechless in most moments is an understatement of the unstable and un-statable.
Nonetheless, I will attempt a few heartscribbles~
For those grieving deeply, my heart goes to you. For those birthing something new, or aspects of themselves that have longed for attention, I send support, and for those unsure about how to be with just about anything, I also send a loving nod in solidarity.
I’d like to make a couple announcements, offer a gift, ask for one, and capture whatever other various and sundry nuggets spill out that I might wrangle them down into word. Or song. (much of my time has been in the wordless terrain of the heart, and by golly if the ‘motion’ part of emotion hasn’t been activated to the nth! wowza- but that’s another tale for another day on another planet that doesn’t use language).
A quick note for those coming to class.. there has been a zoom adjustment and you can click here to join without a password. Or use the previous link along with password 227661. You can always find this info also on my website (calendar and media page).
As I look around, one of the things that brings a great deal of warmth, is the gifting economy that has arisen. As a young thing, I distinctly remember when Lewis Hyde’s The Gift fell into my lap with its eloquent defense of creativity and the importance of it to a culture that is increasingly run by money.. And when Lynn Twist’s book The Soul Of Money landed in my paws, it caught my hair on fire so much so, that I recollect passages to this day. The section detailing Buckminster Fuller’s notion of “Integrity Days” was one of those sticking bits. He spoke of how there was way enough for everyone and that we could begin a process of distribution and reorganization that would take something like 50 years (if I remember correctly) that would have everyone well attended to as far as basic needs being met. Which is deplorably far from our current (pre-covid) structure.
Granted, my early 20’s save-the-world engine was in full throttle.. but maybe, just maybe……
Maybe, covid diminished that timeframe by a lotta bunch years?
Our institutionalized patterns of reaching the “top” and addiction to luxury are deep, but perhaps we can retain some of this awareness and let it inform our structures moving forward.
Maybe it’s time to ‘Buck’ up.
Clearly a bit of that 20 yr old is still in there :)
And in that vein, I have decided to create a page on Patreon.
I have long been impressed by the ability for a culture to support its healers and artists as we once did through this innovative platform. If you find value in any of the things I offer, be it the newsletters, classes, meditations, little ditties on instagram, or if you want to just cast your vote in support of something you believe in, this will give you that option. As Twist taught me long ago, money is energy, and patronage a powerful thing.
And so, I would like to invite y’all to be a patron of my art. The art of yoga.
As a thank you for supporting, you will have access to an ever-expanding library of resources for your personal practice, be joining a community whose values are presence and beauty, you will help support the many complimentary offerings I give, and assist me in bringing to completion a larger writing project that I hope to finish by the end of the summer.
You’ll notice that there is no difference in the tiers and what is offered to folks… the trendy marketing schemes of having a build up to an ‘elite’ client package never sat well, so it is divided simply into lower income subscription, and higher. This allows you to support my work according to your means.

Song I been munchin on much deez days:
Yet again, gotta give a hats’ off to my poppa in the stars..
(Pretty sure he’s hangin with The Little Prince on b-612, tending a rose and keeping bad seeds from taking root. He had an incredible rose garden at his clinic that absolutely exploded with life after his death- roses like I’ve never seen in my life).
But that’s where my real education of economics and equality began. We brought Christmas to a family that needed it most years before our own and he accepted all sorts of payment in exchange for pediatric services when his patients were scraping by- chopped wood, produce, stained glass art, furniture, or just straight-up free for those that couldn’t afford. Thanks for planting a seed pops. You were one of a kind.
Big love to you all. I am moved by the kindnesses, grieving for the losses, and learning to land deeper in my heart through your presence and friendship… even if you just read the newsletter… You make me a better person and teacher. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Julia
